CEI Charge Lab & Building Renovations
The University of Windsor tasked DiMaio Design Associates with expanding their facility for the Centre for Hybrid Automotive Research and Green Energy (CHARGE), located in the E.D. Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation. This world class research and test facility includes several custom EV motor and drive test systems capable of producing fast, accurate, and comprehensive test results fundamental to the future of next generation electric vehicles.
The challenge was to design a flexible space that could accommodate individual testing rooms as well as form one combined testing area for vehicles as large as a bus. After much consultation with the researchers, the final design included administrative offices, student computer labs, a meeting room, five individual testing and control areas.
Extensive coordination was involved in integrating custom equipment, facilitating the end use of the space, and accommodating for future changes in R&D methods.
